ST. BERNARD – Roger Bacon Athletics welcomes Ryan Porta as its new Head Boys Volleyball Coach. Porta replaces Alex Brenner, who led the Roger Bacon boys volleyball program for the past five seasons.
“We are very happy to have Ryan leading our boys volleyball program,” said Roger Bacon Athletic Director Steve Rossi. “We are excited to see the success he will bring to Roger Bacon and the leadership he will provide for our student-athletes.”
Porta was a middle blocker and outside hitter at Moeller High School from 1998-2001 before continuing his playing career at the University of Dayton, where he competed at the club level from 2002-2003.
Porta brings a wide range of coaching experience at the youth, school, and club levels. He previously served as an assistant coach with the White Oak Athletic Association boys volleyball program from 2019-2020 before becoming head coach from 2020-2023. During his time leading the program, his teams won the 2021 League Championship and the 2020 League Tournament Championship. Porta also served as Vice President of the Our Lady of Grace Athletic Association from 2019-2021 and coached girls volleyball at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School during the 2020-2021 season.
Most recently, Porta served as Co-Head Coach for Boys Volleyball at St. Michael the Archangel from 2023-2025 and has coached at the club level with Ohio Premier Volleyball Club (2023-2024) and Cincinnati Attack (2024-Present). His teams have experienced success on the club circuit, including a 3rd place finish at the 2025 Steel City Championship in Pittsburgh, PA, and a 1st place finish at the 2025 Boys Midwest Point Series Championship in Westfield, IN.
Ryan and the Spartans begin the season tomorrow night at Badin. First serve is set for 5 and 6 PM.
