ST. BERNARD - Roger Bacon Athletics is proud to announce Dave Bidwell as the recipient of the 2026 Joe Corcoran Award, also known as the Athletic Department Appreciation Award.

Bidwell’s connection to Roger Bacon Athletics dates back to 1993, when longtime Roger Bacon head basketball coach Bill Brewer was hired to lead the Spartans. Bidwell and Brewer had previously become friends while coaching basketball at Moeller High School, and when Brewer was hired as head basketball coach at Roger Bacon, Bidwell soon followed.

What began in 1993 has grown into more than three decades of dedication to Roger Bacon Athletics. Bidwell continued to volunteer his time and serve the athletic department in a variety of capacities every year through the 2025-26 school year, becoming a familiar and valued presence throughout the Roger Bacon community.

A graduate of Moeller High School, Bidwell was a decorated student-athlete, competing in both swimming and water polo. He continued his water polo career at the University of Dayton, where he played collegiately.

Following his college career, Bidwell dedicated his professional life to education, spending his entire career as a middle school teacher in the Kings Local School District. Even while pursuing a career in education, he continued to give his time to athletics and young people, ultimately making Roger Bacon a significant part of his life for more than 30 years.

The Joe Corcoran Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and service to Roger Bacon Athletics and its student-athletes. The award honors the legacy of longtime Roger Bacon Athletic Director Joe Corcoran, whose commitment to the school's students, coaches and athletic programs continues to serve as an example for the Spartan community.

Bidwell's decades of service embody the spirit of the award. His willingness to volunteer, support coaches and student-athletes, and remain involved year after year has made a lasting impact on Roger Bacon Athletics.
